Funded childcare means your child can access a set number of childcare hours without you paying for those hours.
However, the funding only covers the childcare hours themselves. Some items and services are not included in the funding, such as:
- meals
- snacks
- nappies
- sun cream
- additional activities, including trips and outings
Your childcare provider may charge for these items and services. However, paying these charges should not be a condition of accessing your funded place.
Providers must offer an alternative option where possible. For example, they may allow parents and carers to provide their own meals, snacks or nappies.
Before accepting a place
You should be able to find information about any additional charges:
- on the childcare provider's website
- on their Family Information Service listing
Any additional charges should also be clearly set out in the provider's terms and conditions or contract, which should be agreed with you before your child starts.
Paying for extra childcare hours
You may choose to purchase additional childcare hours from your provider alongside your funded entitlement.
You should discuss any additional hours, charges and payment arrangements directly with your childcare provider.
