Childcare can help parents and carers balance work and family life, knowing their children are safe and supported.

For children, childcare provides opportunities to:

Help with childcare costs

You pay your childcare provider directly. Costs vary depending on the type of childcare and what is included.

Find childcare near you

Use the Family Information Service (FIS) to search for childcare providers in your area by postcode.

You can also check whether a provider is Ofsted registered on the Ofsted website.

Can't find suitable childcare?

If you cannot find childcare that meets your needs, you have the right to request childcare through your child's school.

Contact the school and tell them:

  • The days you need childcare
  • The times you need childcare

The school will respond within one school term.
