Crane permit

A permit is required if you want to use a crane on the highway (road/pavement).

Only apply for a crane permit from us if the location is within Manchester City Council's boundaries. If you're not sure you can check which council you need to apply to.

New application

£159 for a maximum of 28 days.

Renewals

If you need the permit for longer than 28 days, a renewal application should be submitted, which costs £56. The renewed permit is also valid for up to 28 days.

Permit conditions

Apply for a crane permit

• Public liability insurance, minimum cover £10million; and
• A scale plan of the site, showing the position of the crane on the road/pavement

Applications should include Evidence of valid 'Public Liability' Insurance (not less than £10 million) and a scale plan of the site showing the position of the structure/obstruction on the highway/road. Both of these documents can be emailed to highwaylicences@manchester.gov.uk.
