Crane permit

  1. Summary

    A permit is required if you want to use a crane on the highway (road/pavement).

    Only apply for a crane permit from us if the location is within Manchester City Council's boundaries. If you're not sure you can check which council you need to apply to.

  2. Fees

    New application

    £159 for a maximum of 28 days.

    Renewals

    If you need the permit for longer than 28 days, a renewal application should be submitted, which costs £159. The renewed permit is also valid for up to 28 days.

  4. Attachments required

    • Public liability insurance, minimum cover £10million; and
    • A scale plan of the site, showing the position of the crane on the road/pavement

    Applications should include Evidence of valid 'Public Liability' Insurance (not less than £10 million) and a scale plan of the site showing the position of the structure/obstruction on the highway/road. Both of these documents can be emailed to highwaylicences@manchester.gov.uk.

  5. Validity and renewals

    The permit is valid for the period approved.
