Environmental problems Stray dogs

Roaming or secured stray dogs

Any dog that's out on its own is classed as a stray dog. Any dog that's unsupervised in a public place may be taken by us.

We will collect a dog during office hours, these are Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm. If you find a stray dog during these hours please contact us (details on the right hand side of the page).

A secured stray dog cannot be collected unless there is someone to meet the Animal Welfare Officer. You must be over 18 years old to hand the dog over to them.

If you find a dog outside of office hours, keep the dog until the next working day and arrange for the dog warden to come and collect.

Alternatively, we have two out of hours drop-off points:

  • Between 6pm - 11pm Sunday – Thursday, call 0161 794 8888, arrangements will be made to drop the dog off at: Turnpike House, 631 Eccles New Road, Salford, M50 1SW - pease call before attending as this will cut down any waiting time.
  • On Saturday, Sunday and all bank holidays between 9am - 5pm dogs can be taken to our nominated kennels at: Manchester Dogs Home, Moss Brook Road, Harpurhey, M9 5PG

Please note that neither we or Manchester Dogs Home operate an out-of-hours collection.

Therefore there is no cover on Friday between 4pm – 9am, keep the dog until the next day and drop it off at Manchester Dogs Home between 9am - 5pm and on Saturday between 5pm - 9am again keep the dog until the next day and arrange for the dog warden to come and collect.
