Find out if a road or alleyway is public or privately owned

There are two ways to find out if road or alleyway is privately owned.

1. View the street records by appointment only. Email your request to roadinformationsearches@manchester.gov.uk

This is a free service.

2. We can send you a local plan with the information.

This costs £134. You can ask five specific questions with your request, or ask additional questions for £34 per question (inclusive of VAT).

Whichever method you use, we can only tell you if the road or alley is privately-owned or council-owned. We can't tell you who owns a private road. To do this contact the Land Registry.
