Sports, leisure & the Arts Gore Brook Valley Conservation area

Control of development

The centre of Gorton Village was once within the boundary of the present conservation area, and there would have been many more buildings than there are now. The present semi-rural nature of the area might imply that new building activity would be inappropriate, but there may be opportunities for limited small-scale development. For example the recently built detached bungalow off Far Lane had its 'permitted development rights' removed in order to prevent over development of the site and to retain the open character of the Gore Brook Valley.

The setting of buildings against a back-cloth of trees is a very important characteristic of the area. The designation seeks to conserve the rural aspects of the conservation area. The few industrial uses in, Tan Yard Brow for example, should look to relocation rather than expansion.
