Six short-listed for New East Manchester’s 2010 EnterPrize competition
21 October 2010
Six East Manchester companies have been short-listed for The EnterPrize Awards, an annual competition, now in its fifth year.
organised by urban regeneration company New East Manchester and funded in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and Manchester City Council, these six companies beat off stiff competition from nearly ninety other entrants to win £3,000 and will now have the chance of picking up the top prize of £10,000.
One of the short-listed candidates will also pick up the East Manchester Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. This award is sponsored by One Central Park (OCP), University of Manchester Incubation company (UMIC and Manchester Science Park (MSP).
The six businesses that made the short-list include Project Simply and Sunde Technologies both based at The Sharp Project, FC United and 4D Creative based at Hope Mill in Ancoats and Pedal Precision at the Manchester Velodrome in Clayton and Key for the City in Miles Platting.
Eddie Smith, Chief Executive of urban regeneration company New East Manchester Ltd, said: "The EnterPrize Awards are all about encouraging enterprise within east Manchester whilst recognising and rewarding talented businesses and entrepreneurs. These six companies were selected for the final stage because they all showed high growth potential and a clear demonstration of how the prize money could make a significant difference to the company both in terms of growth or job creation. In addition they all had a very robust business plan showing potential for future growth over the next two years."
Steven Broomhead, Chief Executive of the NWDA, said: "The finalists are forward-thinking companies with clear ambitions and the passion to develop their businesses. Businesses have faced a tough year which makes recognising and rewarding these six through the Enterprize awards so important.
Councillor Jim Battle, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council said: "It's great to see such a good range of entrepreneurs short-listed for these awards. The level of interest and number of entrants shows how enterprising the businesses in East Manchester really are. Each one is already a winner in their own right."
The awards ceremony will take place on 2 December at The Monastery in Gorton and tickets are on sale from today priced at £500 (+VAT) for a table of 10 or £50 (+VAT) for individual tickets.
