The results of this year's local elections for Manchester have been published.
Voters went to the polls yesterday (Thursday 3 May) to choose one third of the council.

The composition of the council is now:
Labour: 86
Liberal Democrat: 9
Independent: 1
Voters yesterday also took part in the referendum on how Manchester City Council is run.
They were asked whether they would prefer the council to be run:
By a leader who is an elected councillor chosen by a vote of the other elected councillors
OR
By a mayor who is elected by voters
The results were:
Leader option: 48,593
Elected mayor option: 42,677
The Leader option had the majority and will be how the council is run in future.
