Manchester Libraries and Read Manchester are celebrating this year's National Bookstart Week with the help of much-loved children's author and illustrator Nick Sharratt.
BookTrust’s flagship programme Bookstart reaches every child in England in their first year, with the aim of helping families to read together every day and inspire children with a rewarding love of books.
Nick Sharratt's magical exhibition: Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants is open now at Manchester Central Library. The author of classic picture books including Shark in the Park - and illustrator of books by authors such as Jacqueline Wilson - is celebrated in this interactive and action-packed exhibition.
Pupils from Manchester schools and nurseries will be visiting the exhibition on Thursday 8 June to meet Nick and take part in a host of library activities.
Nick’s free exhibition is open for visitors to Central Library until Saturday 1 July.
The theme of this year's National Bookstart Week is Let's Explore Outdoors and BookTrust have chosen to share the book Everybunny Dance! by Ellie Sandall. This lovely story about friendship is guaranteed to get little ones moving.
Visitors to storytimes in all 22 libraries across Manchester during National Bookstart Week will receive a free Everybunny Dance! book. Some sessions will also get a special visit from the Bookstart Bear, who will be touring the city to promote the joy of reading and sharing stories.
Storytime sessions run in all 22 Manchester Libraries during term-time – visit readmanchester.org.uk for more details.
Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Luthfur Rahman, said: “As ever, Manchester Libraries will mark BookTrust’s annual celebration of the benefits of reading for our youngest citizens with a host of brilliant activities.
