Council tax Request a refund on your council tax account

You can request a refund if your Council Tax account is in credit.

Refunds are usually paid directly into the bank or building society account of the person(s) whose name is on the Council Tax bill. This is the quickest, safest and easiest way to have your refund paid.

If you have another Council Tax account, you can choose to have your credit transferred to that account.

You can also apply for a refund as the executor for someone who has passed away. You will need to upload proof of executorship, such as a copy of the grant of probate or letters of administration.

If we cannot issue you with a refund, we will contact you to confirm this.

Please have your bank details to hand as you will be asked for them during this application.
