    This plaque commemorates the burial of Private William Jones V C of the 24th Regiment of Foot (later the South Wales Borderers), in Philips Park Cemetery./ Private Jones was awarded the V.C. for his part in/ the defence of the mission station at Rorkes Drift/ in natal province, South Africa, against thousands of Zulu Warriors during January 22nd - 23rd 1879. Private Jones died on 15th April 1915, aged 73 years and is buried in section d.887 (CofE) of Philips Park Cemetery.
