  2. What personal information does this service use?

    We hold the names and addresses and email addresses of individuals who submit them when signing petitions under the Council’s Petition Scheme.

  3. What is your personal information used for?

    We use your information to verify the authenticity of submitted petitions.

  4. What is the lawful basis we are relying on?

    We collect and use your personal information only where it is necessary to do so in order to perform our public tasks or duties as a Local Authority (Art 6(1)(e) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (‘UK GDPR’).

  5. Where has the personal information come from?

    All of the information we hold is supplied by you when you submit your details to a petition.

  6. Who will we share your personal information with?

    Your information may be shared with other Council departments to check the validity of the name and address that you have supplied as a signatory to an E-petition made via the Council's E-petitions facility.

    Petitions may be considered and debated at formal meetings of the Council or one of its Committees. At such a meeting a copy of the petition may be made available for inspection by Councillors. We will not give information about you to anyone else unless your consent has been given or the law allows.

    The Council has engaged a data processor to manage the Council's E-petition facility on its behalf. The Council takes measures to safeguard your information and apply controls to prevent unauthorised access to it.

  7. How long will we keep your information?

    Our retention schedule sets out how long we keep personal information for, listed service by service.

  8. Your personal information and your rights

    You can find out more about your rights regarding the personal information used for this service. Your rights apply to the information held by the Council as a data controller, and the information we hold on behalf of the other data controllers.

    If you have any questions or concerns about how we use your personal information, please contact the Council’s Data Protection Officer. 

    You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you're unhappy about how we process your information.
