About this library
The very first free library in Manchester (and the country) was in Hulme and public access to books still matters here. The library is now based in the leisure centre on Hulme High Street where Hulme’s pioneering, independent spirit lives on.

Opening times for library
Staffed library service
- Tuesday and Saturday 9am to 5pm
- Wednesday 9am to 8pm
- Thursday 9am to 1pm
Self-service library service
Outside of the staffed opening times:
- Monday and Friday - 6.30am to 9.30pm
- Tuesday - 6.30am to 9am and 5pm to 9:30pm
- Wednesday - 6.30am to 9am and 8pm to 9:30pm
- Thursday - 6.30am to 9am and 1pm to 9:30pm
- Friday - 6.30am to 9.30pm
- Sunday - 9am to 5pm
Age Friendly Hour
On Tuesdays, 11 to 12am is Age Friendly hour when our older customers get priority support and a friendly welcome.
Story time
Story time for under 5s runs weekly during term time only.
Thursday from 11am
Digital Skills
There is a free digital Skill Up workshop every Tuesday from 1pm to 3.15pm, with staff from Manchester Adult Education Service.
