Permission to permanently close a footpath, bridleway or restricted byway - stopping up order

  1. Summary

    If you are planning to permanently close 'stop up' a footpath, bridleway or restricted byway you need a stopping up order under Section 116 of the Highway Act 1980 or Section 257 of the Town and Country Planning  Act 1990.

  2. Fees

    We will not process your application until you pay a deposit:

    • Section 116 - £10,000
    • Section 257 - £10,000

    Please note, the deposit is non-refundable.
