  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Nature and biodiversity:

    • Deliver a minimum of two community events in Harpurhey parks or greenspaces by end of March  2023
    • Identify a minimum of three additional locations for wildflower planting across Harpurhey by the end of March 2024

    Young people:

    • Facilitate a minimum of one climate change workshop with school pupils by March 2024
    • Work in partnership with Manchester Youth Zone to enhance a community greenspace by end of 2024
    • Promotion of the Green Schools Network with Harpurhey schools that are not already engaged and active. The Network aims to support and accelerate climate action in education settings across North Manchester (ongoing)

    Transport, active travel, air quality:

    • Run a minimum of one road closure event in the ward each year
    • Arrange a minimum of two bike ability courses for school pupils by the end of July 2024

    Things we buy, use and bin:

    • Run a minimum of three recycling pop-up event in the community during national Recycling Week 2023
    • Pilot Refill (reducing single-use plastics use) campaign in Harpurhey and sign up a minimum of eight new businesses by end of March 2024

    Food:

    • Hold a minimum of one community cooking class which promotes low cost, low carbon health meals by the end of December 2024
    • Support a minimum of one new community venue who aren’t yet recycling green waste with infrastructure and information by end of June 2024
    • Distribute a minimum of 30 vegetarian pizza packs to residents in Harpurhey by end of December 2023. Three sessions hosted by Cracking Good Food, comissioned by Neighbourhoods

    Homes and energy efficiency:

    • Distribution of 1875 free LED lightbulbs to residents across Charlestown, Higher Blackley and Harpurhey by the end of March 2024
    • Organise and facilitate a minimum of one community information events for partner organisations to host advice stalls ie, Debt advice, switching energy providers. By end of March 2024.

    Engagement, raising awareness, influencing change:

    • Fund a minimum of one community-led, climate change Neighbourhood Investment project each financial year
    • Arrange a minimum of two climate change themed community events each year.

  2. Who else is involved, and what they're doing

    In Our Nature:

    Lead partner: Manchester Climate Change Agency. 
    In Our Nature is a programme in partnership between Manchester Climate Change Agency, Hubbub, Groundwork Greater Manchester, Amity, the Tyndall Centre for Climate Research and Manchester City Council. Between now and 2025 we’ll be working with communities across the city to connect the climate crisis to practical actions we can all take to make a difference, reduce our carbon emissions, save money, and learn something new.

     

    Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Project (SHDF):

    Led by MCC Zero Housing Carbon Team - Strategic Housing, with Forever Consulting, GMCA, DESNZ
    SHDF is a Government funded programme for improving the energy efficiency of fuel poor, poorly insulated social housing. MCC has been successful in securing funding to deliver retrofit works across 1600+ Council properties across the city, improving them up to an EPC rating of C over the next 2 years.
