  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Nature and Biodiversity:

    • Work with Heart and Soul Group to promote health and wellbeing. Encourage residents to enjoy the local environment and use the Walking Trail.
    • Enhance and promote Big Wood and Hatchett Wood during 2025/26. Work with Walking Mums Club and other Wythenshawe-wide stakeholders.
    • Support the Kirkup Garden Community Taskforce Project. Build on the previous work of Heart and Soul Community Action Team.
      • Progress the co-created vision and plan for a community-led regeneration of Kirkup Gardens.
    • Support resident involvement in the Dandelion Community Gardening projects.

    Young People:

    • Promote Eco-Schools programme with St. Anthony's, Ringway, and Willows schools, and the Sure Start Centre. Provide support where needed.
    • Engage with the Right to Clothing Campaign. Promote uniform recycling schemes to help reduce clothing poverty during the school year.
    • Promote and support:
      • Road Safety Week in November 2025 - The Big Walk and Cycle to School.
      • Awareness of the effects of litter on the environment and promote recycling.
      • The ‘No Time to Waste’ educational workshop provided by Biffa (Engagement Team).

    Transport, Active Travel and Air Quality:

    • Hold a road closure event to raise awareness of the impact vehicles have on the environment.
    • Encourage sustainable travel. Promote services of MCR Bike Kitchen in Wythenshawe District Centre. Develop Tea and Tinker Group with MCR Bike Kitchen to coincide with their wider offer.

    Things We Buy, Use and Throw Away:

    • Promote the reuse and recycle provision at the Emmaus Centre.
    • Partner with Biffa (Engagement Team) to promote recycling at local events.
    • Promote the Manchester Refill Campaign to:
      • Local businesses in Wythenshawe Town Centre.
      • Community groups to consider becoming local refill locations.
      • Residents, encouraging them to download the app to find refill locations on the go.

    Food:

    • Ensure catered events include low-carbon options and avoid single-use plastics.
    • Encourage and support residents to join gardening groups or grow and plant.
      • Continue the Wythenshawe Grows Together Project.
      • Work with Family Hub on their Cooking on a Budget project.
      • Work with Sow the City on their food growing project.
    • Promote local food projects such as:
      • Wythenshawe Good Neighbours older people's luncheon club.
      • The Family Hub infant feeding programme.
      • Blossom food growing and cooking project.
      • Nature Nourish and New Me food offer at Dandelion Centre.
      • Chalk food offer at Dandelion Centre.

    Homes and Energy Efficiency:

    • Ensure free energy efficiency advice is available at local events. Include organisations such as Groundwork Energy Works, United Utilities, and CAB.
    • Provide residents with LED lightbulbs where required. Promote the GMCA retrofit portal.
    • Promote the Age Friendly Wythenshawe Older Person’s event where energy efficiency advice will be available.

    Engagement, Raising Awareness and Influencing Change:

    • Work with Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. Arrange a climate change-themed Community Connector in 2025. Invite a network of residents and grassroots community groups.
    • Promote funding opportunities throughout the year to support the delivery of climate action. Include the Neighbourhood Investment Fund to support climate-related projects.
    • Attend local events and share information on sustainable activities that help reduce carbon emissions.
