  1. Ward-specific objectives

    Greening and Biodiversity:

    • Support residents and community groups with planting and greening projects.
    • Identify opportunities for tree planting in empty tree pits.
    • Support Chorlton Traders to increase and maintain planters in Chorlton district centre.
    • Support the Parks team in efforts to increase and maintain biodiversity.

    Children and Young People:

    • Support Play Streets. Work with Highways and DfT to secure road closures in 2025/6.
      • Support Barlow Moor Community Association (BMCA) and other community groups.
    • Support schools with environmental education and projects.
    • Share funding information. Include Neighbourhood Investment Fund.
    • Deliver school climate change pledge workshops.

    Transport, Active Travel and Air Quality:

    • Address barriers to active travel, particularly cycling.
      • Promote local courses in cycling and relevant grants for security measures.
      • Provide free bike repair and maintenance at events.
    • Promote campaigns to encourage clean air activity.
      • Include national Road Safety Week and Clean Air Day.

    Things We Buy, Use, and Throw Away:

    • Work in partnership with Biffa (Waste Management). Engage with residents on recycling household waste and unwanted items.
    • Promote opportunities for sustainable fashion.
    • Support a local event and promote reduce and reuse.
    • Support and promote sustainability at Chorlton Central Church Summer Fair (July 2025).
    • Promote Great British Spring Clean / Keep Manchester Tidy Campaign.

    Food:

    • Consider low carbon options and avoid single-use plastics at Council Neighbourhood events.
    • Encourage any projects funded by Neighbourhoods to follow the same approach.
    • Encourage residents and local groups to develop food growing projects.

    Homes and Energy:

    • Provide free advice to residents around energy efficiency.
    • Link Groundworks Green Doctors to local events. Include any cost of living events.
    • Share the link to the GMCA retrofit portal. Encourage residents to make contact about home upgrades. GMCA Retrofit Portal – Feel the Benefit.

    Engagement, Raising Awareness, Influencing Change:

    • Engage on behaviours that can help reduce carbon footprint. Consider local contacts such as Chorlton Good Neighbours, Chorlton Traders, the Cost-of-Living Partnership.
    • Promote funding opportunities to support climate-related projects. Include use of Neighbourhood Investment Fund.
