  1. Clean, green and safer neighbourhoods make our city attractive. They help us feel better and safer where we live, work, study and visit.

    These are the projects that have been funded by the Clean and Green investment in your neighbourhood so far. The 'completed' projects were finished in 2024 and 2025. The 'in delivery' projects are scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

  2. What's happening

    Completed projects

    Age‑friendly bench route Ten age‑friendly benches were installed across the ward in September 2025, creating a supported walking route for older residents. Locations are:

    • Khizra Mosque
    • guidance hub
    • post office and church on Waterloo Road
    • Belott Street Park
    • medical centre and advice centre on Levenhurst road
    • corners of Cheetham Hill Road/Heywood Street, Cheetham Hill Orad/Albyns Avenue; Bellott Street Park/Heywood Street.

    Appleford Drive – basketball court restoration

    A wall adjoining the basketball court has been rendered, bringing the court back into use for the local community.

    Bury New Road – pedestrian safety measures

    Guard rails and bollards have been installed to prevent unsafe parking and improve pedestrian safety.

    Cheetham Hill Advice Centre – parking controls

    H‑bars have been installed to prevent parking over crossing points leading to the advice centre.

    Esmond Road – one‑way system protection

    Kerbs have been built out and bollards installed in October 2025, with renewed double yellow lines and updated signage to prevent incorrect vehicle access.

    Goldstone Gardens – footpath resurfacing

    The footpath has been resurfaced to create a safer and more attractive walking route. Completed in July 2025.

    Mary Street – walking route improvements

    Overgrown vegetation has been cleared and footpath and fencing repairs completed to improve safety along this key route into the city centre.

    Lighting improvements

    • Scotland Bridge/Redbank - Street lighting has been enhanced under the bridge to improve safety and visibility
    • Additional lighting has been introduced on passageways linking Galsworthy/Faraday/Lytton streets

    Shaftesbury Road – alley gate upgrades

    Five alley gates have been modified to improve local security.

    Local passageways – new street lighting

    Additional lighting has been installed in passageways between Galsworthy/Faraday and Lytton Avenue to improve safety.

    Heywood Street / Cheetham Hill Road – bollards

    Bollards were installed to prevent footway parking.

    Smedley Lane Community Park – internal park path

    Sections of the circular internal footpath have been fitted with drainage, regulated and resurfaced to improve accessibility and provide a safer walking route for park users.

    Bins

    All on-street bins across the ward have been replaced as part of the August 2024 to August 2025 programme, and park bins in disrepair have been replaced in Cheetham Park, Goldstone Gardens, Crumpsall Park. Find out more about bin installation and the efforts to fight litter.

    Projects in delivery

    Albyns Avenue / Beckenham Road – traffic management scheme

    A scheme is underway to extend a Traffic Regulation Order, introduce no‑entry restrictions, install double yellow lines and bollards, and support improved waste collection.

    Covall Walk / Moordown Close – new bin stores

    Two new bin stores are going to be installed to support safer, more efficient recycling for residents. Play area improvements Improvement works are scheduled for Cheetham Park Natural. Find out more about the play area and planned improvements.
