Homes and property Private landlords: accreditation, guidance and advice

Good‑quality, well‑managed rented homes are important in Manchester.

More than 100,000 households rent privately. That’s over 40% of homes in the city.

We work with investors, landlords and letting agents to improve standards. But we also take action where legal duties are not met. For example, where repairs are not done or tenancy agreements are not kept.

Improve standards. Protect your reputation.

Landlord guide and property checklist

From 1 May 2026, the Renters’ Rights Act has changed the law for private renting. Read Renters Rights Act: information for landlords.

Landlords should keep up to date with policy changes, and get independent legal advice if any issues come up during the tenancy.

Our Landlord Guide includes a practical property checklist. It helps you:

  • identify common hazards in rented homes
  • check your property is safe and in good repair.
