People and communities Local climate action

Our aims

Our neighbourhood teams help local communities to take climate action. These are the key aims for these local climate action plans.

Nature and biodiversity

To work with all communities to enhance and protect green spaces. And to help local people and friends groups for parks and other green spaces.

Children and young people

To help schools, youth centres, youth councils and youth groups to act on climate change. And to work with partners to help young people to lead climate projects.

Transport, travel and air quality

To support projects that encourage active travel. To promote the wider gains of sustainable travel, such as better health and wellbeing. And to champion campaigns such as Clean Air Day and Cycle September.

Things we buy, use and throw away

To share advice on how to recycle better across the city. To ensure our events and other activities limit the use of single-use plastics. To promote the benefits of reuse and repair. And to encourage people to buy local.

Food

To support projects and campaigns to reduce food waste. To promote local and seasonal food choices. And to help food growing projects across the city.

Homes and energy

To find and share ways to make homes more energy efficient. And to reduce energy use.
