Proposal for a new mainstream secondary school
To meet growing demand for secondary school places, we are seeking expressions of interest from DfE approved sponsors to run a new secondary school in east Manchester. This is in line with the national process for establishing new schools.
This will be a new purpose built 8FE (1,200 place) secondary school to be located on the Showcase Cinema site, Hyde Road, Longsight, Manchester this will be built by us using basic need funding. The new school is proposed to open in temporary accommodation for September 2021 and then in a permanent building from September 2023.
We would welcome interest from multi academy trusts or interested parties with a track record of delivering the very highest standards of education.
Effective schools with high quality teaching and leadership are key to achieving the Council’s ambitious vision for the City and the trajectory of improvement across our family of schools is a positive one. This is an opportunity to become part of Manchester's family of schools and develop a new school located on a key route for the City, within a culturally diverse community where there are significant plans for regeneration and high demand for school places. Links between the new school and local businesses will be very important in supporting the skills needed in the City.

All applications should be sent to school.organisation@manchester.gov.uk with annexes attached if appropriate, and received by 5:00pm on Wednesday 1 July 2020.
The outcome from the Council’s assessment will be sent to the Regional Schools Commissioner on 10 July 2020 who will make the decision (on behalf of the Secretary of State) on the school’s sponsor.
