Making an appointment to register a birth

Booking an appointment to register a birth

  • You must book your appointment online to register births at Heron House.
  • Birth registration appointments are currently offered on a weekly basis, with new appointments for the following week being made available every Monday. Whenever it is possible we will also make a small number of appointments available throughout the week. Birth registration appointments get booked up very quickly. If you cannot find any available appointments when you try to book we suggest you try again the next day or wait until the following Monday, when most appointments are released. If you prefer you could try booking an appointment at an alternative venue to Heron House (i.e. a local Surestart centre if you are a Manchester resident, or one of our partner offices if you live in Trafford, Salford, Bury or Rochdale).
  • Please don't email us about appointment availability unless it's an absolute emergency.
  • Please book your appointment to register a birth as soon as possible after the baby is born to avoid missing the 42 day deadline.
  • We cannot make appointments over the phone - please book an appointment online

We can only attest declarations for babies born in other registration districts if you are a Manchester resident.

  • If your child was born outside of the City of Manchester and you are not a Manchester resident, you must contact the register office either for the district in which your child was born or your local register office.
  • If you are a Manchester resident and wish to make a declaration in relation to a baby born in another district contact us by email to registeroffice@manchester.gov.uk

Attending an appointment

Please read all the listed important instructions before attending your appointment:

  • You must NOT attend Heron House if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Only card payments will be accepted. We cannot take cash.
  • You must arrive on time for your appointment. If you are late we can’t guarantee that we could fit you in later in the day (this is sometimes possible, but you may need to book another appointment.).
  • Your appointment will last around 20 minutes.
  • Where possible, bring your booking confirmation email to your appointment.
