Fire Precautions
Our surveyors enforce fire safety standards, particularly in houses in multiple occupation such as bedsits and hostels, bed and breakfast establishments, small care homes and lodging houses. They work closely with other departments of the City Council such as Housing and Education to raise the standards of accommodation, amenities and care by the enforcement of minimum standards.
Anyone can report deficiencies in fire safety standards in such premises, including other Council Departments and members of the public. The surveyors will investigate the existing standards of fire safety and take action to improve those standards should they prove to be inadequate. Such improvement works will be co-ordinated with work required by other departments when it is appropriate to do so.
