Business and investment State aid

The state aid process

Before granting a business rates discount, we will send a letter to the business which specifies that the business may be entitled to receive state aid de minimis making reference to the de minimis regulation.

This letter will ask for information on other awards of aid provided under state aid de minimis received in the current and two previous fiscal years.

We need a declaration from the business that in receiving the aid the business will not exceed its state aid de minimis threshold.

The onus is on the business to demonstrate that it can receive the discretionary business rate discount within state aid de minimis. Usually where state aid de minimis is provided under the regulation, the business will be informed by letter.

We will not grant a discount to a business until we are satisfied that the €200,000 threshold will not be exceeded and we have received the declaration.
