Building on the momentum from our Autumn training programme which offered nine sessions across three key topics, and as part of Manchester City Council's continued commitment to supporting the sector, we are pleased to announce the launch of an accredited Playwork qualification course which will be free for staff to attend in Spring term 2026.
The Level 2 Award in Playwork Practice (L2APP) is an accredited qualification, awarded by Agored Cymru, which will be delivered online by Coleg Y Cymoedd. Whilst this is usually only available to settings and practitioners in Wales, MCC has worked with Play Wales to ensure our providers have access to a qualification not otherwise accessible in England. Moreover, this qualification is recognised by OFQUAL - the regulatory body for qualifications in England.
It is the perfect course for anyone passionate about supporting children’s play and creating enriching, child‑led environments. The qualification builds confidence and practical skills, helping learners understand the importance of play, how to support it safely, and how to work effectively in play settings such as after‑school clubs, holiday schemes, and community play projects.
Applications for the course are now live and will close at 9am on Monday 9th February. You must complete this form to be considered for a place, even if you expressed your interest previously.
Please note that this is a pilot cohort with just 12 places available. We expect a high level of interest and completing this form does not guarantee your place on the course. Applicants will be informed of the outcome by Friday 13th February
