Consultations and surveys Gambling policy consultation August 2018

Our current Gambling Policy statement expires in January 2019 so we have reviewed and updated this to make sure it meets our legal obligations and strategic objectives.

The first stage of this process was to present the updated version of the polciy to our Licensing Committe on Monday 16 July, where the changes and consultation approach were accepted. The next stage in this process is to consult members of the public and relevant statutory bodies onthe changes.

The key changes to the statement are:

  • new section at 4.2 setting out how we expect operators to assess the local risks for gambling premises in Manchester and information on how we will identify local risks through the development of a 'local area profile'
  • setting out how the gambling policy supports the delivery of the Our Manchester Strategy
  • removal of parts of the policy that are now outdated, duplicate guidance issued by the Gambling Commission or are covered by other legal requirements
  • updating the policy with to meet General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
  • updating contact details for responsible authorities i.e. agencies that must be consulted on applications
  • updates to expectations for operators in relation to 'self exclusion' arrangements and how premises are set out to ensure children are protected from being harmed by gambling.

You can download a copy of the Draft Gambling Policy statement 2019-22, where we have highlighted the sections that have been updated.

This consultation closed on Monday 1 October 2018.
