Consultations and surveys Northern and Eastern Gateway walking and cycling consultation

Have your say

The scheme will help to address some issues in the area, including:

  • Physical barriers to cycling and walking, like the River Irk, Ashton Canal, and railway viaducts. Junctions which are not pedestrian/cyclist friendly (Oldham Road, Rochdale Road and Dantzic Street)
  • The need to use Great Ancoats Street, which is not currently suitable for cycling for people of all ages and abilities

Other benefits of the scheme are:

  • Job opportunities for local people who may otherwise struggle to find employment, and other benefits for local schools and community organisations.
  • Encourages healthier lifestyles by making walking and cycling easier and more attractive for everyone.

Overall, the aim of the scheme is to make Ancoats, New Cross and the emerging Northern Gateway a great place to live, with more opportunities for walking, cycling and links to public transport.

There is a second stage of this consultation, find out more about the second stage.
