Consultations and surveys Safer roads for Beswick phase two consultation

Have your say about phase two

This consultation is now closed.

There's a number of schools in the area, but we were not able to communicate with them and their local communities as we normally would due to Covid 19 lockdown measures. Because of this, we want to carry on talking to the schools and residents about six other proposed measures. These will be phase two of the project, and we would expect the measures which are agreed as part of the consultation to be put in place early Spring 2021.

These are:

  • Improve the crossing to the west of the junction of Rylance Street and Ashton Old Road to allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross safely at the same time, and making it easier for cyclists to continue to Gorton Road and the segregated cycleway on Alan Turing Way.
  • Improve the junction where Rylance Street meets Athlete’s Way (opposite Ashbury Meadows Primary School)
  • Add a new crossing and more attractive street Albert Street near the junction with Barmouth Street - pavements will be built out to narrow the road and slow traffic, crossings improved and trees planted (if conditions are right).
  • Improve the junction where Albert Street meets Grey Mare Lane. The road would be narrowed to reduce crossing distance, and a raised table put in to slow traffic. Street trees would be planted.
  • Put in road narrowing and an improved junction (raised table to slow traffic, and tree planting) where Grey Mare Lane meets Ashton New Road. The existing cycle lane would be diverted to reduce conflict between cyclists and motorists, and pedestrian access improved.
  • Put in road narrowing and an improved junction where Darley Street meets Ashton New Road

There is an error in the printed version of the map (in the booklet that we've distributed): the northern and southernmost roads are both labelled as Ashton New Road. We apologise for this - they should be labelled Ashton New Road and Ashton Old Road respectively.
