About the street drinking Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) consultation
This consultation is now closed.
Everyone should be able to enjoy safe and welcoming public spaces in our city. Nobody should have to put up with behaviour which has a negative impact on them or their environment.
We are consulting with the public on whether or not to introduce Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPO) in areas of Manchester to control street drinking in public spaces. This consultation is citywide except for the area covered by the existing City centre PSPO.
A PSPO would specify behaviour which is unacceptable and give the police and Council an extra tool to help tackle it alongside existing powers and ongoing partnership work. Find out about PSPOs and how they are put in place.
We have listened and continue to listen. This consultation will be crucial in shaping whether we proceed with proposals, and if we do, in what form. Your contributions help us build a complete picture of the issues and their impacts.
Street drinking for the purpose of this consultation is described as: "people drinking alcohol in a public place such as a street or a park (this does not include a public house, bar or cafe outdoor area or an organised public event)".
