Consultations and surveys Wythenshawe Active Travel Scheme consultation

Map and have your say

This consultation has now closed. Due to strong feedback from local residents, this consultation has been ended early while we review the proposals for new walking and cycling routes in Wythenshawe

The downloadable map shows the area where we are looking at removing traffic except for buses. It covers the area bounded by Altrincham Road to the north, M56 to the east, Hollyhedge Road to the south and Roundthorn Road to the West.

The proposed bus gates, which general traffic could not pass through, would be located on Floatshall Road and Hall Lane. They would operate 24 hours a day in both directions and would only permit buses and bicycles to pass through the gates.

This change would prevent people who do not live in this area from driving through. By removing traffic and giving priority to buses and bicycles we will encourage more people to walk and cycle in this area.

Have Your Say

The Wythenshawe Active Travel Scheme consultation has been running for 15 days and has already attracted nearly 600 responses.

It is clear that local residents have been keen to comment on the scheme and understandably they want their opinions to be taken on board.

The responses have raised concerns that the proposals will not make walking and cycling easier in their local area.

Given the high number of responses and the feeling that the proposals may need to be reworked, we have decided to withdraw the proposals.

In the meantime, we will review the proposals for new walking and cycling routes in Wythenshawe and explore how the Active Travel Fund can be used in the most appropriate way for local residents.

The online engagement session planned for Thursday 7 April has been cancelled.
