Consultations and surveys Tackling Adverse Childhood Experiences survey

Adverse Childhood Experience survey

Given the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on our city, Manchester Public Health team is reviewing their approach to tackling Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) - some of the most intensive and frequently occurring sources of stress that children may suffer early in life.

By taking part in this survey, your views and experiences can help inform the work to reduce the number of children in trauma in our city and ensure that the strategy is inclusive for people who live and work here.

Everyone can experience stress as a child from failing at something we cared about, to moving house or losing a friend or pet. These experiences help us grow and become resilient.

But adverse childhood experiences are not something a child can simply bounce back from. They are too overwhelming and scary, or they are situations that see a child lacking any real support.

Manchester Public Health team is aiming for the city to become an ACE-aware, trauma informed and trauma responsive, with a co-ordinated approach to reducing exposure to ACEs.

We aim for all practitioners to work with residents to prevent or reduce the impacts of trauma, where we help children, families, and communities to build resilience and where there is a focus to improve the lives of residents by working in a trauma responsive way.

Reviewing the city’s approach to ACEs

Following a successful pilot project in Harpurhey, the city’s approach to ACEs was developed and in 2019 a strategy published ACE-aware and trauma informed city 2019-25. Read the full report on the Manchester Safeguarding Partnership website.

We are now halfway through delivering the strategy’s objectives and are refreshing the approach to ACEs given the impact of Covid-19 on the city, to ensure it meets the current/future needs of adults and children living in Manchester.

This survey is an opportunity for you to provide your views and opinions on the Manchester ACEs and Trauma Informed approach, to ensure that we develop an inclusive strategy for the people living and working in our city.
