Crime, antisocial behaviour and nuisance Hate crime awareness

Support for victims of hate crime

If you are a victim of hate crime, you have rights. These rights are set out in the Victims' Code.

What is the Victims' Code?

  • It is a list of minimum standards for victims of crime in England and Wales.
  • It includes extra help for victims of hate crime because they are more vulnerable.

What extra help can you get?

  • Specialist support services
  • Faster contact from the police and other services
  • Special measures in court (for example, giving evidence behind a screen)

These rights apply through the whole process:

  • From reporting the crime
  • To making a complaint if your rights are not met.
