If you're a child or young person living with abuse at home, you're not alone. There are many others in your situation.
Please know that help is available.
It’s important to remember that the abuse is not your fault. Many abusive relationships don’t include children or young people.
If you are in immediate danger
Call 999
If you can’t talk, wait until you're connected and either:
- press 55 (from a mobile)
- leave it for 45 seconds (from a landline), or
- get someone else to phone
If you are deaf or hard of hearing
- Use our textphone service 18000
- Text us* on 999 (*only if you’ve pre-registered with the emergency SMS service)
- Use 999 BSL or Signvideo
Once you're connected, you'll need to say whether you need the police, ambulance or fire service.
If the situation is not an emergency
If you're not in immediate danger, but still need the police call GMP on 101 or visit Greater Manchester Police website.
Help for children and young people
Learn more, get advice and find out about counselling from these groups:
- Manchester Social Care
- Kooth - online counselling and support for young people.
- Childline - a free, 24-hour confidential helpline for children and young people who need to talk. Trained counsellors can provide support and advice about any problem that’s on your mind.
- Work in Progress - offering help to understand domestic violence and abuse and how to take positive action if it’s happening to you.
- Many schools and academies can help and support children and young people affected by abuse within the school. Speak to a member of staff you trust at school for help.
- NSPCC - a national charity providing help and support on many difficulties children and young people are faced with.
- LoveRespect - advice about relationships and abuse.
- The Children's Society - Resolve is an emotional health and wellbeing service that works with children between the ages of 5 and 18 who have witnessed or been subjected to domestic abuse. You can email resolve@childrenssociety.org.uk.
