Terms and conditions for the book review competition

Terms and conditions / Rules for entry

1. The promoters are Manchester City Council.  This competitions/promotions are only open to children aged 4 – 16, excluding employees of the promoter, their families, or anyone else professionally connected with this promotion.  The competitions are free to enter.

2. Promotion period: Enter between 09.00 BST on 3rd July 2023 and 17.00 BST on 16 September 2023.

3. To Enter:  Write a book review or create a drawing based on the book, forms available online at manchester.gov.uk/summerreadingchallenge or your local library, email your entry to librarycompetitions@manchester.gov.uk before 16 September.

4. Multiple entries per child are allowed throughout the promotion period. Only one prize can be won per household.

5. All entries must be received by the end of the promotion period to be valid and no liability is accepted for illegible, incomplete or late entries.

6. The Prizes: Book Review Competition 4 winners will win 1x Bundle of Books and a Kindle Fire OR art supplies each.  The child will choose between a Kindle or art supplies, not both.

7. The prize is non-transferable, is not exchangeable and has no cash alternative in whole or in part.

8. In the event of unforeseen circumstances the promoter reserves the right to substitute the prize for an alternative of equal or greater value.

9. Winner selection: All valid entries received by the promoters during the promotion period will be checked & read by the promoting team and scored against a criterion for the competition.  The promotion judging team will meet to jointly select four winners. The judges’ decision is final. Winners for the Book Review and Drawing Competition will be selected from the following age categories:

  • 4-7 years
  • 8-9 years
  • 10-11 years
  • 12-16 years 

10. Winner notification: The winner will be contacted via the telephone number or email address provided upon entry within 60 working days of the draw and will be required to respond to confirm eligibility plus acceptance of the prize within 14 days of initial contact. In the event a winner does not respond to communications within the 14 days of initial contact, the promoter reserves the right to disqualify that winner and allocate that prize to an alternative winner selected in the same manner.

11. The promoter reserves the right to verify the eligibility of entrants. The promoter may require such information as it considers reasonably necessary for this purpose and a prize may be withheld unless and until the Promoter is satisfied with the verification.

12. All entries must be made by the entrant themselves. Incomplete or illegible entries, and entries which do not satisfy the requirements of these terms and conditions in full will be disqualified and will not be counted, using identities other than their own or any other means in order to increase that entrant’s entries into the promotion in a way that is not consistent with the spirit of the promotion, that entrant’s entries will be disqualified and any prize awarded will be void.

13. No responsibility is accepted for entries lost, damaged or delayed or as a result of any network, computer hardware or software failure of any kind. 

14. The promoter will only use the personal details supplied for the administration of the promotion and for no other purpose, unless we have your consent.  Children’s names are required in order to enter them in the competition. This data will be used solely to administer the competition and non winners entries will be destroyed in December 2023, following the winners claiming their prizes.  Winners entries will be kept but personal details will be destroyed.

Parents/guardians are required to provide their contact details in order to enter the competition, and we may need to pass your details to third parties in order to administer the competition, or arrange prizes, but in all cases your information will only be used for this purpose, and held only as long as is reasonable for the purposes of managing the competition.

15. Manchester City Council, may in their absolute discretion modify, amend, cancel or suspend these terms and conditions at any time if they deem necessary or if circumstances arise beyond their control.

16. The promoter accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered as a result of entering this competition or accepting the prize. Nothing shall exclude the liability of the promoter for death or personal injury as a result of its negligence. 

17. If for any reason the promotion is not capable of running as planned for reasons including but not limited to tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the promoter which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the promoter reserves the right (subject to any written directions given under applicable law) to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process and to terminate, modify or suspend the promotion.

18. If an act, omission, event or circumstance occurs which is beyond the reasonable control of the promoter and which prevents the promoter from complying with these terms and conditions the promoter will not be liable for any failure to perform or delay in performing its obligations.

19. The winner will be required to participate in any reasonable publicity arising from the promotion. These include social media and blogs.

20. By entering this promotion, all participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these terms and conditions.

21. The promoter’s decision is binding in all matters relating to this promotion, and no correspondence will be entered into.

22. The Terms and Conditions of this promotion shall be interpreted and applied on the basis of English Law and the Courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.
