Parks, leisure and the arts Summary of our Update on Parks report

Key strengths we want to build on

  1. Expanse, variety and quality of landscape both designed and natural - from formal city centre parks to the woodlands of Boggart Hole Clough and the lake at Chorlton Water Park.
  2. Popular play areas: reflecting parks' importance in a neighbourhood.
  3. Lots of attractions in many parks, including: horticulture, walled gardens, historic buildings, monuments, sports facilities, community events, spectacular views, boating lakes and animal attractions.
  4. Excellent but untapped 'destination' parks which could drive a more enterprising way of doing things.
  5. Potential for staging events where appropriate.
  6. Communities who care - can we unlock the potential to improve parks through volunteers and partners, and through transferring or sharing responsibility?
