Brown bins and containers
Your brown bin is for metal, glass and hard plastic containers. Things you can put in it include:
- Empty plastic bottles - including those used to hold shampoo, bleach, mouthwash, drinks, washing up liquid and milk
- Empty plastic pots - including those used to hold yoghurt, soup, cosmetics
- Empty plastic tubs - including those used to hold margarine, laundry powder, chocolates
- Empty plastic trays - including those used to hold meats, fruit and veg punnets
- Empty foil and foil trays
- Empty aerosols
- Tins and cans
- Glass bottles and jars
There are some plastics that we can't recycle including plastic film, carrier bags, crisp packets or pet food pouches. You should put these in your grey non-recyclable waste bin.
If you are still unsure, Recycle for Greater Manchester has more information on what to do with different items.
If you have the wrong things inside your recycling bins
If you have a recycling bin with the wrong things inside, we can empty it using the large unwanted item service. Just choose the correct colour recycling bin from the drop-down list of items and our crews will empty the contents of the bin and return it. Each bin will be counted as one item.
