Donate unused food
Manchester's food charities need good quality food to provide nutritious meals to those in need. Each charity's needs differ and so do their specialisms, between the organisations we work with we can use produce from all food groups such as fresh fruit and veg; chilled food; and ambient products. We can also utilise ready meals, frozen produce and household items.
At present, only a small proportion of the edible food that is wasted within the UK food industry is fed to people. We are looking to change this, particularly as the impact of COVID-19 continues to grow and an increasing number of people need food support.
Surplus food that goes to waste continues to be a significant problem as tonnes of edible food is disposed of each month, when it could be used to feed people.
If you are a local business that would like to make donations but don’t know how then please email us at omfp@manchester.gov.uk. We will put you in touch with a relevant organisation who are able to safely accept your food donations alternatively you can register a donation using the 'Register to donate' form.
If you are a resident and would like to donate you can do so via the Trussell Trust.
If you are a local business that could re-evaluate your waste policies and start to make a social, economic and environment impact but don’t know how then please email food.response@manchester.gov.uk.
