Business and investment Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter

Improving employment standards across Greater Manchester

The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter is a voluntary membership and assessment scheme that aims to raise employment standards across GM, for all organisations of any size, sector or geography.

There are seven key characteristics of good employment: secure work; flexible work; pay; engagement and voice; recruitment; people management; health and wellbeing.

The GM Good Employment Charter is driven to develop diverse, equal and truly inclusive working conditions across Greater Manchester. By promoting the benefits of equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace, we aim to support employers to create workplaces that embrace our seven characteristics of good employment in ways that ensure fair pay, opportunity and progression to all. These issues are central to the fulfilment of Good Employment.

Commit
Become a Supporter of the Charter by making a written commitment that highlights where your practices currently are in the seven characteristics of good employment and how you plan to make improvements. To get involved as a Supporter you do not need to meet all the criteria of the characteristics, but you must commit to improving practices in all.

Develop
Engage with the Supporters’ Network of the Charter. Attend events and access support aimed to introduce different elements of good employment, educate with practical and easily implementable takeaways, and inspire with innovative practice and proven benefits. Become a Charter Member by meeting the set criteria for all seven characteristics of good employment.
