Introduction
You can search for published material using our Library Catalogue, but for archives you should search the Greater Manchester Lives website, which describes archive collections held across Greater Manchester.
Between these two sources, there is an extensive collection for you to discover including:
- Archives of Businesses, Families and Societies - Estate, business, organisation and tenant records from across the city and Greater Manchester, including the Manchester Ship Canal, Calico Printers Association, the Vegetarian Society and the Manchester Chamber of Commerce.
- Books, Newspapers and Periodicals - a large collection of printed material about the City of Manchester and its region. Mainly concentrated on the city itself, books includes pictorial collections and books on specific suburbs, whilst our newspaper collections include a variety of publications available on microfilm and online.
