What’s changing?

A new contraflow bus lane is being introduced. This means:

  • Only buses, black cabs, and pedal cycles can use this lane
  • It operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Other vehicles are not allowed in the lane at any time

What counts as a bus?

A bus is any motor vehicle designed or adapted to carry 9 or more passengers, not including the driver.

What happens if you drive in the bus lane?

If you enter the bus lane or use a bus gate when you're not allowed:

  • You may receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN)
  • The fine is £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days
