Our carbon emissions

In July 2019, we declared a climate emergency. This declaration recognises the need for us, and the city as a whole, to do more to reduce our carbon emissions and the negative impacts of climate change. It also demonstrates our commitment to take leadership in the global response to climate change and to lead by example.

In March 2020, we launched our current Climate Change Action Plan 2020-2025. The document sets out our commitment to tackling climate change over the next 5 years and builds on previous action plans from the last decade. It outlines the actions we need to take to play our full part in delivering the city’s zero carbon ambition. The plan includes the actions we will take to achieve a 50% reduction in our direct CO2 emissions between 2020 and 2025, as well as actions to support the city’s zero-carbon ambitions.

Following the launch of this plan we will be monitoring our direct emissions on a quarterly and annual basis; these reports will be available on this page.
