Benefits and support Manchester's Council Tax Support Scheme

Our local Council Tax Support Scheme is designed to help both working-age people on low incomes and pension-age people, pay their council tax.

We have divided the scheme into two parts:

  • Part A is about Council Tax Support for pension-age people
  • Part B is about Council Tax Support for working-age people

We review our scheme every year but if we want to make significant changes, we have to consult with Manchester residents.

Each year we publish a new scheme that increases the figures we use and includes any recent minor changes to the regulations to keep our scheme up to date.

We amended our scheme in April 2024 to provide more support for working-age people. We also increased the period for which we can backdate a Council Tax Support claim to one year, for both pension-age people and working-age people.

Read our current Council Tax Support Scheme and Schemes from previous years.

We have summarised some of the rules for easier reading.
