We want care leavers who are part of the LGBTQ+ community to feel safe, supported, understood and seen.
It is incredibly important that we recognise your identity as part of all the support and pathway planning offered to you on your journey to independence, including your gender and sexuality.
Inclusivity is important, and we want to ensure we are equipping care leavers with the knowledge and networks of support available to them and ensure they feel comfortable and confident in exactly who they are!
Young people and PAs can access support and advocacy via the Proud Trust, a charity working across Greater Manchester.
We will:
- support young people to access in-person and online support groups for young people to meet peers of a similar age, from the same community.
- offer specific mentoring support for LGBTQ+ young people from age 16 up to the 25 years via the Proud Trust.
- ensure staff and carers have the knowledge and skills to support, advise and guide you as a LGBTQ+ young person
