Thursday 2 May 2024: Local elections and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority mayoral election

The next election for Manchester residents is a combined one. Both the local elections and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Mayoral election take place Thursday 2 May 2024. Electors across Manchester will be able to vote in:

  • local government elections for each Manchester ward, and
  • the Greater Manchester Combined Authority mayoral election (with other Greater Manchester electors).

Voting

  • The deadline to register to vote at this election has now passed. If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, email us at esu@manchester.gov.uk to find out.
  • To vote in person at your polling station you must show valid photo ID of yourself. If you do not have any, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate instead. The deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.
  • The deadline to apply for a postal vote or postal proxy vote has now passed. If you are not able to get to your designated polling station on the 2 May and don't have an absent vote set up, the only method to vote now is to appoint a proxy.
  • If you need someone to vote on your behalf at your polling station, appoint a proxy on gov.uk by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April. To appoint a permanent proxy to vote on your behalf due to a specific reason, complete a permanent proxy application form on gov.uk.

  • You can download a list of candidates for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority mayoral election (links to GM Elects website).
  • You can also download the Elections Booklet for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Election, which has been sent out by post to electors across Greater Manchester.

Polling Stations 

  • Find your polling station using the Democracy Club's polling station finder (external website).
  • A change for voters in Brooklands
    • If your poll card says that your polling station is: 
      • Sandilands Primary School, Infant Department, Wendover Road, Brooklands, Manchester, M23 9JX
    • This has now changed to:
      • Church of the Nazarene, Wendover Road, Brooklands, Manchester, M23 9FN
