Council tax Council tax text and voice messaging service

If you’re in arrears with your council tax, we may get in touch with you using a voice or text message.

A company called TeleSolutions will be sending voice or text messages on our behalf to residents, just before we send them a council tax reminder letter or summons, to help avoid expensive extra costs.

The voice message will invite you to either make a payment or contact us for help and support. Setting up a payment plan is a good option to help you get back on track, and our Account Managers will be able to help you do this; they’ll need to ask you some security questions first.

You’ll know that the SMS text messages and emails are genuinely sent by us, Manchester City Council, as the text messages will show as “Manchester” and emails will be sent by manchester@sms.manchester.gov.uk. They will include links to our website www.manchester.gov.uk that will help you to make a payment, set up a direct debit or get advice and support.

This service is confidential, and your mobile number will not be shared with anyone else: you won’t get any other marketing messages to your phone.

Disclaimer: While this service is offered to help prevent customers from falling into further arrears, it’s not always available: you are responsible for making your council tax payments and keeping instalments up to date.

If we already have your mobile number, we’ll have signed you up for this service automatically.

If you would like to opt-out of receiving the text messages, you can complete the short opt-out form
