Zero carbon and climate change Ward Climate Change Action Plans

Background

Our aim

In Manchester we have a bold ambition to be carbon zero by the year 2038; we're working in many ways to achieve this but the journey will be challenging and will need to involve everybody that lives in, works in or visits Manchester.

Local level:

Although zero-carbon is a citywide ambition, action is also needed at a local level, so we've developed a Climate Change Action Plan for every ward, in line with our own Climate Change Action Plan 2020-2025. Each one gives a framework for the local actions our Neighbourhood Teams are working on, which aim to engage communities on the issue of Climate Change and work closely with our partner organisations. We want to - and need to - work together on the journey to Zero Carbon, so the focus is on communication, learning and action to support and encourage residents, businesses, groups and individuals to act alongside us to reduce their carbon footprint. Find your ward in our online directory.

We'll update and report on the actions in each ward's plan at least once a year.

Citywide:

To monitor our progress, our partner organisation Manchester Climate Change Agency is tasked with reporting on progress for the city as a whole: read more of the detail in the latest Climate Change Framework Update 2022, or see their Annual Emissions Reports for Manchester. Also, the actions we're taking to reduce the city council's direct carbon emissions are detailed in our Climate Change Action Plan.

It's your plan - get involved!

Everyone has a part to play in local projects. Lots of people are already involved alongside councillors, council staff and our partners from housing and health, businesses and voluntary organisations.

Get in touch – help turn your local plan into action that works for you and your neighbours:
