Zero carbon and climate change Ward climate action

In Manchester, we’re working to be zero carbon by 2038 at the latest. We’re involving everyone – who lives, works or visits here – in the journey.

Manchester Climate Change Agency report on zero carbon progress for the whole city. Find out more at www.manchesterclimate.com/2022-update. And in their annual emissions report.

Our climate change action plan relates to the Council's direct carbon emissions. Those from our buildings and services. It's a five-year plan to:

  • respond to the climate emergency
  • become a zero-carbon organisation
  • protect our residents from the impact of climate change

Local action plans

We've also made action plans for each ward. They show how we'll engage communities and support organisations that work with us. We're helping everyone to reduce their carbon footprint.

The ward plans cover seven themes:

  • nature and biodiversity
  • children and young people
  • transport, active travel and air quality
  • things we buy, use and throw away
  • food
  • homes and energy efficiency
  • influencing change

Our teams are working on the actions in these plans. We'll update and report on them at least once a year.
