We investigate floods that have taken place in Manchester. This is in accordance with Section 19 of the Water Management Act 2010. As the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), it is our duty to publish our findings.
New Year 2025
Over New Year’s Eve 2024 and New Year’s Day 2025, heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across Manchester. The Environment Agency rainfall gauge recorded a total of 81.4mm of rainfall in this period. This took place between 2.30pm on 31 December 2024 and 8am on 1 January 2025. This rain fell onto already saturated catchments. It resulted in exceptionally high river levels.
Internal flooding was reported in properties across Manchester. This included at:
- 60 residential properties, and;
- 29 commercial properties.
External only property flooding was reported at an additional:
- 53 residential properties, and;
- 9 commercial properties.
