Parks, leisure and the arts Brooklands Road Conservation Area

Negative factors

Recent alterations to Normanhurst, such as the introduction of UPVC windows and three extensions have done little to complement the original architectural concept, but each of these intrusions could be removed or replaced without permanent damage to the original building. These alterations and additions have not destroyed the character and quality or the original architectural concept.

Some maintenance and repair work is required, all of it normal for a building of this age and none of it so serious as to justify the demolition of the building. Apart from the Normanhurst Hotel, all the original Victorian properties in the conservation area have been demolished during the twentieth century and replaced by buildings of later design.
