Births, marriages, deaths and nationality When death occurs

Obtaining a copy of the post mortem report

The Senior Coroner for Manchester allows relatives to be sent a copy of the report.

If you would like a copy, please make your request in writing, either by post or email.  This is necessary because we need to obtain the Coroner's approval and signature on each request.

Do bear in mind that the report contains detailed and explicit medical information and many people find this unpleasant reading.

The Pathologist tells us the cause of death immediately, but the full report is not usually available until 2 weeks after the examination.  If the Pathologist has taken samples for histology (microscope work) or toxicology (analysis of blood/urine) the final report may take up to 6 weeks.
